How to Kill Pine-Tree Pests

104 3
    • 1). Introduce parasites and predators that feed on the larvae (immature form of caterpillar) of pine tree pests including bagworms and spider mites. For example, the parasitic wasp Pimpla disparis larvae eats the moth pupae and Ladybird beetles and lacewings devour spider mites.

    • 2). Coat trees using organic methods such as bacterial insecticides, oils, soaps and miticides. For example, introducing the spores of the bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis via insecticide will kill many beetles and caterpillar pine-tree pests when consumed, by destroying their digestive systems.

    • 3). Spray trees with insecticides obtained at local nurseries such as chlorpyrifos for white pine weevils, fluvalinate for sawflies and permathrin for weevils as a last resort. Insecticides can kill beneficial insects as well as harm the environment.
