When it comes to our yard and landscaping there are many different ways that we can focus on one particular area such as our water garden.
For example, many homeowners today are trying to focus on that one particular piece in their yard that really stands out and really seems to make a statement and for many people are starting to focus on water gardens and water features.
Water gardens can really make a bold statement if you are looking for one or you can make them that make more of a subtle statement or tranquil environment.
It's how you choose to decorate your water garden or what you put in it and around it that makes the statement a bold one or a more subtle one.
Garden plants can make your water feature or water garden a bold masterpiece because if you place large plants around in or in it such as umbrella sedge, water plantain, water lilies or cattails it will draw ones eye to the water garden so that it is more eye catching.
By adding plants around your water garden that attracts wildlife such as butterflies, dragonflies and hummingbirds the eye is drawn to it making it your masterpiece or focal point.
Adding fish to your pond is also another great focal point or attention grabber.
If you are looking for a water garden that has a ecosystem that functions right away then you will want to add fish.
Koi are very similar to goldfish but tend to grow larger and very well in outside climates.
Koi fish need a larger space most often a larger pond in order to thrive the best as well as they need special formulated Koi food that contains vegetables and fruit that can be purchased at pet stores and often times even online or at garden centers that sell Koi or pond supplies.
Goldfish can also thrive well in outdoor climates but often times you will only be able to place 1-2 per 50 gallons of water.
The best thing to do when purchasing goldfish is to buy a few dozen according to the size of your pond and expect for only a dozen or so to live.
There are many different species of goldfish to purchase that are inexpensive and cheap such as Comets, Orandas and Shubunkins.
Comets are most often seen in red, white and orange combinations while calico goldfish are often times found with hoods on the top of their head which makes them a fancier goldfish.
When purchasing fish for your outdoor pond it is always best to talk to someone at the pet store or garden center as well as watch the fish you are about to purchase, you don't want to purchase aggressive fish or fish that do not appear healthy.
Garden plants and fish can always lead to a magnificent centerpiece in your yard that if taken care of will make you the envy of all of your neighbors and friends.
