How to Prune Silver Berry Shrubs
- 1). Inspect your silverberry carefully for any diseased or damages branches or leaves. Cut away any of these with your loppers or secateurs and dispose of them in the waste bin, skipping the compost pile to prevent the accidental spread of disease.
- 2). Use your loppers to establish the desired height of the silverberry and shape the top of the plant into a flat or rounded crown.
- 3). Cut away branches in the interior of the plant that cross or rub against one another and thin the branches slightly with your loppers or secateurs. This will let sunlight penetrate more readily into the plant and allow for fresh air circulation, which will prevent disease and damage.
- 4). Prune the perimeter of the silverberry bush with your loppers, working your way around the plant and cutting concentrically to maintain a balanced aspect.
