How to Write a Work Poem

104 8
    • 1). Take a small notebook along with you everywhere you go at work, along with a good pen. It could be a pad hidden in your organizer or just a pocket notebook. The important thing is that it is something inconspicuous that you can keep on hand.

    • 2). Whenever an image strikes you, quickly jot it down in the notebook. For example, if the coffee is really bad in the morning you might quickly jot down "coffee tastes like burnt dog hair," or any other image that occurs to you. You can also write down thoughts and observations about coworkers or non-work related things.

    • 3). When you have a break or a long meeting, make sure no one is sitting close enough to see what you are doing. Then, pull out the notebook and read the observations you have recorded during the day.

    • 4). Try to assemble your observations in different orders. You can rewrite them in the notebook, read through them in different ways in your head, or draw arrows to show which line should go where.

    • 5). Cut out any images that don't work with the others. For example, if almost all of your images are about the approaching weekend and how you can't wait to get out of the office and one is about how to negotiate a deal with a client, you may want to eliminate them.

    • 6). Go home and type up your poem on the computer. Correct any spelling errors and give it a title.
