    • 1). Check with your air carrier before you fly for updates to any current travel restrictions.

    • 2). Evaluate the amount of liquids you need to fly with. The 2009 guidelines restrict liquids to 3.4 ounces per person. If you have multiple liquid herbs in bottles that exceed this limit, consider transferring just the amount you need for the trip into smaller, half-ounce or one-ounce containers, and store the remainder in checked baggage.

    • 3). Secure all liquids in a 1-qt. Ziploc bag. The bag must be clear.

    • 4). Declare any items that exceed the 3.4 ounce limit. If you need to fly with more than the 3.4 ounces of medicinal liquids, you will need to declare these items at the gate. Allow yourself plenty of time to obtain the proper paperwork and receive the necessary confirmation from the TSA in order to board.

    • 5). Bring a signed document from your naturopath in the case that you need to fly with the exceeded limit. This could expedite procedures at the gate.

    • 6). Pack other medicinals as you would any other carry-on item. Many medicinal herbs come in the form of teas, powders or homeopathy tablets and are currently not restricted.
