How to Use Air Rifle Scopes

104 1
    • 1). Select a scope to be used on the air rifle. Determine whether a fixed or variable scope is best suited to the shooting need. Avoid the use of firearm scopes, as they are not designed to withstand the double recoil of an air rifle.

    • 2). Choose a mount that will fit the receiver of the air rifle. Select a low, high, medium or specialty mount based on the type of air rifle and personal preference. Install the base ring on the air rifle receiver with a screwdriver or Allen wrench. Place the scope in the base rings and secure with the top rings and included screws.

    • 3). Set up a target in a safe shooting location. Sight the scope by firing one shot at the target. Adjust the windage elevation on the scope with a screwdriver. Continue to fire one shot at a time, and make the necessary adjustments to zero in the scope.

    • 4). Acquire a target with the scope down range. Hold the rifle against a shoulder. Brace the rifle with the dominant hand around the hand grip near the trigger, and the other hand supporting the forearm. Adjust the eye distance from the scope tube until the entire image in the scope is visible.

    • 5). Place the center of the crosshairs in the scope on the desired location of the target. Take a deep breath. Hold the breath to steady the shot, and then squeeze the trigger to fire the air rifle. Release the breath.
