Sometimes a heart touching story crosses your desk that makes you stop for a while and think.
After reading this story, I had to say that I love technology.
The write-up that I stumbled upon today is from a patient about his experience on Seattle Children's Hospital's use of Accellion secure mobile file sharing.
A baby was brought to a Hospital's Emergency Department (ED) presenting with a near SIDS, intubated with bag ventilation.
The child was undergoing frequent abnormal movements and the transport team was unsure if the baby was experiencing deadly seizures.
The transport team immediately initiated phone consult with Neonatology MD at Seattle Children's Hospital who requested to video the baby when suspicious movements occur as instructed, transport team launched and captured video within cloud base, Accellion app.
And, saved it in secure workspace for Neo MD to view and the infant was finally saved with proper medication.
Without the ability to see the seizure like movements, the consulting MD would have had to assume the verbal description of the behaviours of seizures and would have treated the infant with medication out of guesses.
This one of the many inspiring stories which speaks why four out of five smartphone users worldwide are interested in mHealth technology that will let them interact with healthcare providers - a new mHealth related survey reveals.
What's more, 76 percent of respondents say they are eager to use such tools for reminders regarding medical appointments, while 69 percent say they would embrace the tools for making appointments and medication intake reminders.
The survey is the latest research regarding user adoption of mHealth tools and technology.
Recently, smartphones used for health data jumped from 6 percent to 19 percent, while tablet use rose from 4 percent in 2012 to 11 percent in 2013 and 2014.
Among other services, specific mHealth segments like monitoring and diagnostic medical tools-- hold enormous potential.
In five years that segment will be $ 8 billion market, representing an annual growth rate of 43.
3 percent from 2014 through 2019.
So, what do these numbers tell you? If you are not taking it seriously, then it's high time to analyse if your business is in pace with the changing trends and consumer requirements.
The fact that individuals are becoming more and more open towards using information technology to make health-related decisions, as new-age healthcare organizations you should change the way of communicating with your clients.
You should not fail to tap the market with better offerings as people are highly interested in mobile services that can help them manage their personal health and shop for healthcare services.
As the growing, aging and tech-savvy population will drive future growth in this market, be the first to take an initiative making remote patient management a matter of reliability, convenience & accessibility.
