Where to Find iPhone Apps

The title of this article was chosen very carefully:It's "Where to Find iPhone Apps," not "Where to Buy iPhone Apps.
"As you should know, there is only one place to actually buy them, the Apple iPhone App Store.
Finding them, however, is a different story.
There are tens of thousands of apps available for purchase, many of them performing similar duties.
Where do you go to find the best one for your needs? In a meta-world like ours, it is not exactly ironic that there are a few iPhone apps that can assist you.
  • Apptism is fantastic if you're looking for something very specific in terms of functionality.
You can actually customize the filters to make it easier to drill down to the features you're looking for, and developers are able to post previews of apps they're working on so you can stay ahead of the curve.
  • AppBeacon is similar to Apptism but it lacks the specificity of filtering.
It does have a cool bookmarking feature that allows you to bookmark apps -- very handy in a world of so many choices.
  • For the value or novelty shopper, AppShopper might fit the bill.
It alerts you to new offerings and can be configured to alert you to price changes of programs whose purchase you may be considering.
It can also sort apps by features and price point.
Another popular avenue of finding iPhone apps -- and the one that I would recommend, actually, is good old Google.
Just go on Google and search by functionality.
Search for "Turn my iPhone into a frying pan," and you will probably find apps for that.
You will find in-depth reviews and heated debates about the murky world of competing programs for the world's favorite mobile device.
Another way to find just the app you need for your purposes would be to develop it yourself.
You do not need to be a programmer to do this, but if you are a programmer, then you might find it quite easy.
If you are not a programmer, you can easily hire one through one of the many hire-a-freelancer sites on the Internet.
The advantages of doing things this way are that you can get exactly the functionality that you require, and if you want you can even sell your new app to others.
If you are good at marketing or have a truly exceptional product, your custom app might even make you rich.
Those are your choices:
  1. Browse the App Store by hand.
  2. Use an app to help you find what you need.
  3. Use your favorite search engine.
  4. Roll your own.
Good luck in finding what you need.
