Obama Promises Gas and Mortgage Payments

103 2
The media buzz is that Obama promises gas and mortgage payments when he becomes president.
I have yet to see any such claim from Obama or his camp.
What I have seen, however, is a widely circulated clip from an October 2008 Obama rally in which a reporter is circulating through the crowd getting comments from the attendees.
One elated Obama supporter said, "It was the most memorable time of my life.
It was a touching moment.
I never thought this day would ever happen.
I don't have to worry about putting gas in my car.
I don't have to worry about paying my mortgage...
If I help him, he's going to help me.
"   Reports claim that the lady actually says Obama will buy gas for her car and make her mortgage payments.
Conservative critics are implying that somehow Obama has duped his gullible supporters into believing that, as president, he will cure all the nation's economic ills - that life will be butterflies and cotton candy.
I suppose there are some naive people in this country that have swallowed too much hype and decided Obama is nothing short of a savior.
I am more inclined, however, to give the general public a little more credit.
In particular, regarding these lady's words, I look at the bigger picture.
She is caught up in the moment.
She's emotional.
Could it be that she simply believes in Obama's plan to stabilize the economy - that things will be easier for everyone - that she won't have to worry quite so much about the basics, like gas for her car and a roof over her head...
and that a vote for Obama is a vote for that plan? Isn't that also a possibility? But that possibility is not sensational and does not incite outrage.
  One thing is sure.
Media types love to pick apart a person's words and make them into something ridiculous, sensationally ridiculous.
It is more than a little jump to take this lady's passionate comments and conclude that she expects Obama to provide transportation and shelter for her.
By the way, I'm a conservative, a conservative who has heard enough "spin" journalism.
I think we all have.
In tough times like these, we all just need to hear the truth.
