How to File State Taxes for Idaho
- 1). Use form 40 if you were an Idaho resident for the entire year. If you were a resident for only part of the year, or if you were a nonresident but had income from Idaho sources, use form 43. Both forms are available online (see Resources).
- 2). Gather your income documentation including any W-2 forms, 1099-MISC forms, 1099-INTs or other income statements that you received. Also gather any records of tax-deductible expenses such as contributions to a traditional IRA.
- 3). Complete the appropriate Idaho state tax form using your earnings and deductions information.
- 4). File your taxes online to save money on postage. You may qualify to file your taxes for free online if you meet the criteria set by the particular tax providers (see Resources). Keep in mind that if you do use an online provider, you must use the same company for both your federal and your Idaho state return.
- 5). Mail your paper copy of your tax return to the following address if you do not want to file online:
Idaho State Tax Commission
PO Box 56
Boise, ID 83756-0056
If you mail a copy, you must also include a copy of your federal return.
