- 1). Decide what kind of anniversary event you want to have. The wording of your invitation should have the same spirit as your celebration. Choose formal, casual or silly wording based on your plans.
- 2). Write your invitation in third person if your event is formal. Write out every word, including names and streets, that you include on the invitation if it's formal.
- 3). Indicate that the person throwing the anniversary -- whether it's the couple, the parents or a friend -- is inviting the addressee to the anniversary. Follow by writing that the above requests the honor of the addressee's presence. Indicate the event next. End the formal invitation by giving the location and day of the anniversary party.
- 4). Write a romantic quote about anniversaries or love at the top of a less formal invitation. Use rhyming to make the invitation silly and welcoming. A couple celebrating an upcoming anniversary after an elopement in Alexandria, Virginia used, "Time moves so quickly and so, too, does life. We were so anxious to be husband and wife. Our days were filled, our schedules, too; so we ran off and said our I dos. Bride and Groom request your presence at their first anniversary celebration. " It's sweet, silly and welcoming.
- 5). Indicate what you're celebrating. A year of marriage comes with many milestones. For a small, intimate anniversary celebration, talk less formally about the first year. Mention, for example, a first home, a vacation or a promotion. Explain that you're celebrating the first year and looking forward to all the ones that come after.
