Will Termites in Mulch Around a Swimming Pool Eat the Liner?
- Termites often live in mulch because it is rich in moisture and provides them with insulation. It serves as an ideal living environment that encourages termites to explore, create tunnels and feed.
- Although termites mainly feed on wood, they also damage paper, books, insulation and swimming pool liners and filtration systems. If termites are present in mulch that is in direct contact with the swimming pool, they could create considerable damage.
- University of Kentucky recommends using mulch sparingly, limiting its depth to 2 or 3 inches. Keep it at least several inches away from the swimming pool and watch the mulch for signs of termite activity. If you suspect that termites are present, contact a reliable termite control firm for inspection and treatment.
