A water rocket is very easy and simple to build.
For making an impressive and working rocket, following is a step by step procedure.
Things Needed The tools are needed for the project are; hacksaw, pliers, scissors and electric drill fitted with 1/2-inch bit.
The materials needed for the project are; 1 1/2-inch PVC pipe that is 2'' long, 1/2-inch PVC pipe with the size of 10' long, 1/2-inch PVC tee, 1/2-inch PVC end caps, PVC cement, candles, cotton string, plastic cables, 2L soda bottles, duct tape, clamp for 1 1/2-inch hosepipe and replacement tire valve.
Procedure Using a hacksaw, 10' long PVC pipe has to be cut into three parts measuring 78'', 18'' and 2''.
Now using an electric drill, s hole should be made on the top of PVC end cap.
The replacement tire valve should be used to unscrew the small cap and then put it on one side.
The valve has to be now inserted into the hole of the end cap and pushed so that it sticks out at the top.
The small cap on the valve should be now screwed back.
The end of the valve should be now pulled with pliers until it is firmly seated on the top of the PVC end cap.
The PVC end cap, PVC tee, 18'' PVC pipe piece and 78''pipe piece has to be kept in a straight line and has to be connected together using PVC cement.
The 2'' pipe piece has to be attached at the leg of PVC tee.
A mark should be made on the pipe assembly that is 11-inches from the open end of the assembled pipe.
The candle is to be used for heating the pipe evenly over the mark.
When the pipe gets soft at the mark, it has to be pushed inside to create a small bulge.
The pipe should be held straight until the bulge becomes hard.
This bulge acts as a seal between the pipe and the soda bottle.
The duct tape has to be used to put nine cable ties together.
It has to be ensured that all the cable ties lie parallel to one another.
Furthermore, their head should be lined up evenly and they should face the same direction.
The soda bottle has to be now slid over the pipe and then placed over the bulge.
The cable ties have to be tied around the pipe in such a way that the head of each tie holds the lip of the bottle tightly.
The hose clamp has to be now placed over the duct tape for making sure that the cable ties will securely stay in this position.
Another soda bottle should be taken and its top and bottom has to be cut.
The bottle has to be flattened and a hole of 1 1/4-inch should be drilled on either side.
This will form the spring that will keep the trigger in position before the launch.
In 2'' long scrap PVC pipe, a small hole has to be drilled and one end of 4-feet long string has to be tied.
The bottle has to be removed from the pipe.
The spring has to first slide on the pipe assembly and then the trigger.
The string has to be now passed through the holes of the spring.
The duct tape has to be now used to tie the other end of the string to the pipe assembly.
The bottle has to be filled with 1/3rd of water and has to be slid over the pipe.
Now the string of the trigger has to be pulled to allow the bottle to rest properly on the bulge.
The string has to be released so that the trigger will hold the bottle in place.
At the valve at the PVC end cap, a bicycle pump of about 60 to 65 psi has to be attached into the launcher.
Finally, the position of the launcher has to be adjusted and the sting has to be pulled, the rocket will immediately blast off.
