Out of 19 parks the following five are historic:Bellevue State Park, First State Heritage Park of Dover, Fort Delaware Park, Fort DuPont State Park, and Fort Miles Historical Area.
Bellevue State Park The Bellevue Hall mansion is the only historical site at this Delaware state park.
The park tried to retain the original splendor of the Bellevue Hall mansion.
The present mansion shows the alterations made by the DuPonts.
William DuPont, Jr.
made the changes to the Bellevue Hall mansion and surrounded his mansion with many of the best facilities.
You will find he invested money into the woodlands, pond, fields, tennis courts, gardens, and equestrian stables.
This park covers 328 acres of land and contains places for picnics, hiking trails, a 1-1/8 mile fitness track that circles a catch and release fishing pond.
You will find that the fishing pond is stocked with sunfish, bass, and catfish.
First State Heritage Park at Dover This is not actually a park but more like historical and cultural sites link together throughout the Dover, Delaware.
Dover is the capital of Delaware and in 2004 the governor established this Delaware state park.
Tourist can take a self guided tour, with audio tapes, of approximately 30 sites in the historical district of Dover.
During the first Saturday of each month, visitors can find extra things to do with the guided tours of some of Dover's rich history.
The self guided tour will take you through the historic sites of Dover.
Some of those sites include the Legislative Hall, Delaware Public Archives, The State House Museum, Woodburn Hall House, Museum Square, Biggs Museum of American Art, and the Delaware Visitor Center.
Of the two parks, First State Heritage Park will give you a lot of information on the historic past of Delaware.
Bellevue State Park offers you more of a scenic experience of both parks.
