Above Ground Pool Set Up Directions

    • 1). Remove all sod from the area where you will be installing your pool. Do so underneath where the pool will sit, as well as around the pool to make it easier for you to set it up. Consider site drainage of the area. A new pool can act as a dam, making it impossible for water to follow the path it used to. This could mean your yard will become swampy, making you think your pool is leaking, even if it's not.

    • 2). Level the area where you will be installing your pool. Use a shovel to dig out any grass or rocks from the area. Dig out the higher parts of the ground to make sure that the ground is flat.

    • 3). Build the foundation for the pool frame. You will need full-sized patio stones or blocks as levelers under the pool's frame posts. The block must be completely in the ground with only the top showing. Exposed sides can cause erosion. Follow the instructions that came with your pool to determine how many blocks or stones you will need. Check and recheck as you place the blocks to make sure that they stay level.

    • 4). Lay down your pool liner's base material. You will need smooth, debris-free sand as a buffer between the blocks and the pool liner. You should have enough sand for a 2-inch layer throughout the area. Place a nut grass killer on top of the sand. Nut grass is a common weed found in yards. Products to kill nut grass can be found at any home and garden store. Wet it down and tamp the sand down starting at the outside edge and going toward the middle.

    • 5). Assemble your pool's walls. Level and round the walls, continually checking that it is the perfect shape. Set the pool into the track as you unwind it around the pool's site. You will need help to prevent the wall from falling as you set it up. Connect the wall with the parts provided in the pool's box. Cover all screws and the seam with duct tape after it is secured.

    • 6). Build your beveled cove around the inside wall of your pool. The beveled cove prevents contact between the metal framework and the fragile pool liner. It should be level all around and form a ramp up the pool wall. The sand will need to be at a 45-degree angle and a minimum of 6 inches high. Pack the sand using a 2-liter bottle filled with water by rolling the bottle up and down the sandy ramp. It should be as firm and even as possible.

    • 7). Install your pool's liner, making it as straight and wrinkle-free as you can without overstressing it. Keep in mind that minor wrinkling is normal; however wrinkles should not be folded over.

    • 8). Put together the frame of your pool according to the instructions. Assemble the pieces of the frame loosely until all are attached to the pool, and then tighten all screws and bolts. Attach cover caps and any decorative trim.

    • 9). Apply all of the safety decals and warranty information according to the pool's manual.

Even out the area of your yard around the pool. Design it however you'd like, as long as it will not disturb the pool's setup. Once this is done, your pool is ready to be filled.
