Does a Normal Distribution Mean the Sample Size Is Accurate?
- The normal distribution is the most basic probability distribution. Also know as a Gaussian distribution or bell curve, it is symmetric, and the mean, median and mode are all the same.
- The sample size is simply the number of subjects (e.g., people) on whom you collected data.
- The shape of the distribution has nothing to do with whether the sample size is accurate. The sample size can only be inaccurate if you miscounted the number of cases in your data set. A large sample can be distributed normally or not, as can a small sample.
