103 12
No matter how expensive and how purportedly durable your mattress is, it will deteriorate at some point in the future.
Most people tend to disregard mattress care and maintenance because their mattresses are still fairly new.
They only start taking care of it when it is already showing signs of deterioration.
You shouldn't make the same mistake.
Try the following care and maintenance tips to prolong the life of your bed set: 1.
Clean your bed regularly.
Although there are mattresses that can ward off dust mites and dirt particles, they can still thrive around the mattress.
This is why you still have to clean it properly.
Remove the bed covers and wash them in your washing machine.
Use warm water cycle and add mild detergent.
To clean the bed, get a vacuum cleaner.
One with a good filtration system should work well in removing dust particles and preventing them from transferring elsewhere in the room.
2.
Consider investing on additional mattress accessories such as a cover or a topper.
If your bed cannot inherently ward off dirt and dust particles, use a bed cover.
It will do the work for the mattress.
Moreover, this is also beneficial in preventing stains and molds.
A mattress topper can help prevent sagging.
This is placed on top of the mattress.
It helps prevent the primary bed from holding all of your weight.
Hence, it adds more years to your primary bed.
3.
Try placing a platform under the bed.
Make one made from wooden slats.
There should be at least once inch of spaces in between the wooden slats.
This will prevent the mattress from sagging.
The spaces in between the slats will help improve circulation inside the bed so the inside of the mattress will not turn moist and humid.
As a result, it can prevent the appearance of molds.
4.
Do not use the edges as a sitting area.
Although most beds have border rods at the perimeter of the mattress, you should not sit on the edges of the bed as this can cause sagging.
Just place a sitting area close to your bed.
An ottoman would be nice.
5.
If you have kids, tell them not to use the bed as a trampoline.
If possible, lock your bedroom so they will not enter it.
6.
Do not eat while lounging on the mattress.
Crumbs of food can settle on the surface of the bed and this might encourage the appearance of germs and bacteria.
These simple tips can help prevent the impending deterioration of your mattress.
