Germination of Broad Bean Seeds
- 1). Soak the broad bean seeds in water for 24 hours before planting.
- 2). Remove all weeds from within a 3-foot radius of the planting area.
- 3). Add a 4-inch layer of aged compost to the soil in the planting area. Mix it into the top 8 inches of soil, using a gardening fork or hoe. Rake the bed until it is level.
- 4). Plant the broad bean seeds 1 inch deep and 4 inches apart. If planting more than one row, space the rows 24 inches apart.
- 5). Water the planting bed until the top 3 inches of soil is moist. Allow the soil to dry almost completely before watering the broad beans. When the plant is in flower and forming pods, water it enough to keep the soil moist at all times. Your broad bean seed should germinate within one to two weeks.
