Question: Can you please honestly tell me if I need the Ru Yi cure or not? What is this feng shui cure used for, what is it about? I do not understand Ruyi, but I want good feng shui in my home. Thank you!

Answer: Ru yi is a Chinese sceptre. And yes, since ru yi is the image of an old sceptre used in classical, or traditional feng shui, not many people in modern feng shui schools are familiar with the ru yi look or use.

Literally translated, ru yi means as you wish and as such, ru yi has become a feng shui good luck and good fortune symbol.

To know whether you need a ru yi or not in the feng shui of your home, first decide if you actually like the look of ru yi, then see if you feel connected to its meaning. Of course, the actual quality of the ruyi you want to buy is also important, as many so-called feng shui cures are made of cheap materials and are of low and questionable quality.

I will help you understand the meaning and use of ru yi in classical, or traditional feng shui applications, and then it is up to you to honestly decide if ruyi is a good match for the energy of your home (or office).

As with most ancient symbols, there are several different versions as to the origins of ru yi. No matter ruyi originated from the Buddhist ceremonial sceptre, from a self defence weapon or from a simple back srcatcher, records show that in time ru yi became a symbol of power and authority.

The additional meaning of ru yi is that of good luck and protection, as well as helping one find a clear way to the fulfillment of one's path, or destiny.

Because of ru yi association with power, authority and fulfillment of one's destiny (yang quality of energy, often translated as career in today's world), a ruyi is best used for good feng shui in the office, not home.

In classical feng shui schools, a ru yi is most often positioned in the North area of one's place of business - which can be a home office of a bigger, corporate office. A ru yi in the office is assumed to protect the owner from negative energy and clear the way for career advancement.

At home the ru yi is most often placed in the Northwest bagua area - the area connected to male energy. It is also the feng shui area connected to networking and helpful people. Sometimes a ru yi will be placed in the West area (Children & Creativity) to create a more authoritative energy in dealing with one's children.

The typical feng shui ruyi is made of metal or a cheaper, lighter material with a bronze finish. The more expensive, well crafted ru yi is made of jade or precious wood. You will often find the feng shui ru yi adorned with red tassels with the mystic knot, as well as various feng shui symbols.

So, if you like what ru yi is about and feel connected to its look and meaning, then definitely go for this feng shui cure! However, in applying good feng shui in your home or office, do not make the mistake of feeling limited to using cures that you do not resonate with.

After all, feng shui is all about energy, and energy can be expressed in endless ways. You just have to be clear with your intent and know what you are doing.
