We Are Not All Lance Armstrong
Some people like Lance Armstrong are able to pick themselves up and force themselves to be better despite overwhelming odds.
Lance fought three different kinds of cancer to become the best bike rider in the world, winning 7 Tour de France races through sheer determination and willpower.
Lance Armstrong and others who teach overcoming adversity preach to "never give up.
" We've all heard the expression "if at first you don't succeed, try and try again.
" It's great advice if you have the internal motivation and willpower do it, but we're not all Lance Armstrong.
The rest of us mere mortals are seldom that motivated or that driven to accomplish a goal and sometimes we just give up because we don't have the internal drive to keeping pushing.
Sometimes a goal that seems important, in the end just isn't important enough to keep make us keep going.
When you quit or fail, instead of beating your head against the wall trying to do something that seems almost impossible, it might be wiser to see if there isn't a different way to accomplish the same goal.
There might be another path to success that doesn't require the same amount of motivation and willpower.
Dieting and weight loss are like that.
The constant battle of depriving yourself of the foods you like and the endless up and down cycles with your weight, just end up making you feel like you're fighting a losing battle and sometimes you just want to quit.
You know how important it is to you to lose that weight but the sheer force of your habits don't allow you to stop doing what you know you shouldn't do.
While Lance Armstrong had few options when it came to being the best bike rider in the world, you do have options when it comes to how you lose weight.
It's not necessary to deprive yourself of all the foods you like and you don't have to see your whole life as a battle against your weight in order to lose weight permanently.
By taking a different approach to weight loss that demands far less motivation, willpower and sacrifice you'll open a door that leads to success and you won't feel the need to quit.
Instead of trying to change all your eating habits at once like diets do, challenge yourself with small manageable changes that will lead to small weight losses that add up.
So if you're down in the dumps about straying from a diet, are unable to control your eating and you just want to quit, don't beat yourself up about it.
Find a different way that will allow you to succeed.
Stay focused and stay positive and you'll find that you can do it.
Whether it's losing weight or something else, you always have options.
