How Do I File Suit in St. Louis, Missouri, Small Claims Court?

    • 1). Determine if you have a case. In St. Louis, a small claims court can rule only in cases that involve a breach of contract, damaged property and injuries caused by the actions of another. Claims cannot exceed $3,000.

    • 5). Serve the defendant in the case. You can send a summons to the defendant by certified mail or pay a fee for a process server to deliver the summons.

    • 6). Wait for your court date. When a court date is set, you will receive a letter sent by the small claims court to the address you provided. Failing to appear or arriving late could lead to a dismissal of your claim.
