- 1). Select the correct upgrade bundle you want to purchase. The Creative Suite software comes with a variety of options catered toward users of different design-based professions. If you are a graphic designer, it would be effective to purchase the "Design Standard" or "Design Premium" package. Somebody who works in the film industry, however, would more likely purchase the "Production Premium" package, which includes advanced video-editing software.
- 2). Buy the Creative Suite 3 upgrade from a retailer. Make sure that you purchase the Mac version of the upgrade, as there is a distinct difference between the PC and Mac upgrades. They are not interchangeable. Upgrades can be purchased online through a variety of retailers, including Amazon, Dell and Adobe. Browse your options and select the best price.
- 3). Insert the installation disk that is included in your software package. Click on the CD drive icon from your application dock at the bottom of your screen to open up the contents of the installation CD. Double-click the setup application to begin the software upgrade. The setup application will start up in a new window.
- 4). Follow the instructions on-screen and select the components you wish to install as an upgrade. Generally, you should select all of the upgrades unless you have a particular preference in not updating a certain software. Click "Next" to bring up the Serial Key input page of the setup application.
- 5). Type in the Serial Key that was included in the software packaging. The code should be printed with the installation CD that you received in the product box. When you are finished typing in the code, a green check mark should appear, verifying that you have a valid CD key. If the code is invalid, contact the Adobe Customer Support Center.
- 6). Click "Next" to begin the installation of your upgrade. The selected upgrades will now be installing on your computer, and a status bar will notify you of the progress. When the products are finished installing, click "Finish" to end the installation process.
- 7). Start up the Adobe Software from your "Applications" folder by double-clicking the program icon. From the top pull-down menu, click on "Help," "Activate..." to activate your Adobe products and eliminate the 30-day trial status. A new dialog box will pop up giving you multiple options to go through the activation process. Follow the on-screen instructions and activate it through the phone or Internet method, depending on your preference.
