Instructions for the Treatment of Lice Infestation
- 1). Power on your electronic comb and run it through the hair of every member of your household. When powered on, the comb will create a high pitched noise and will stop when the teeth of the comb have trapped a louse. If your comb detects lice, remove them from the hair, and place them in a sandwich bag (or an airtight container that is the equivalent).
- 2). Treat your hair with a lice shampoo. Additionally, make sure every member of your household treats their hair with the shampoo. While they are in the bathroom, household members should soak their combs in hot water for at least 15 minutes before combing their hair. If they know their hair is going to be combed, the comb must sit in the hot water for this amount of time, every time, before use.
- 3). After using the medicated shampoo, run a fine-toothed or nit comb through the hair of each individual in the household. This is used to make sure you have removed all lice, as well as any eggs, that may still be in an individual's hair.
- 4). Vacuum every carpeted area of your home. Wash every cloth product (clothes, blankets, stuffed animals, and so on) you own. If something is not machine washable, place it in a sealed plastic bag for two weeks. This will kill all of the lice and eggs that may hatch during the time inside the bag.
- 5). Cut the hair of every household member that has a longer hairstyle. Once cut, go through the hair once more using the electric comb to check for lice. Once you have checked for lice the second time around and have not found any, you may be lice free for now. However, you must remain cautious and check for lice a few times per day for the next two weeks.
