How to Create a USB Flash Drive for Windows XP
- 1). Insert the USB drive into the computer. The machine will immediately recognize you have inserted removable media by displaying a small icon in the lower right-hand corner of the screen.
- 2). Right click on the removable media icon that appears after inserting the drive. The computer will present you with an option that reads "Format this Drive." Select the option, which opens a menu containing formatting choices.
- 3). Format the drive using the FAT32 file system, which is the fastest type of file system for removable media under Windows XP. Assign the drive a label name if you like, and select the box for "Quick Format," then press "Start" to begin the automated formatting procedure. This will create your flash drive for use under Windows XP.
