India has gotten off to a great start in the Compaq Cup defeating New Zealand a couple of days ago. This match may just be a warm up, but India will need to win it or else face losing their title as number 1 in the world as ranked by the ICC.
Unfortunately the regular season openers, Virender Sehwag and Gautam Ghambir, are out of play for the first part of this season due to injuries, especially unfortunate as India will be playing back to back matches for the next few days.
Due to India beating New Zealand with a grande total of 155 runs, New Zealand are now officially out of the Compaq Cup for 2009.
Although the Compaq Cup isnt one of the biggest sporting events of 2009, it is definitely one of the most exciting. This year the Compaq Cup began on September 8th 2009 kicking off with this years hosts (Sri Lanka) playing New Zealand. The Compaq Cup is being hosted in the small, but rather cosy, capital city of Sri Lanka, Colombo.
