An Affiliate Marketing Business Plan and Electronic Donut Delivery

What is Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate marketing, in brief, is a means for selling a product that belongs to a vendor (creator) who pays you a commission upon completion of the sale.

Sounds pretty simple--doesn't it? Oh how I wish it was.

There are literally hundreds of thousands of affiliate markets out the're all trying to convince potential buyers that the products they offer are NEW, UNIQUE, THE VERY LATEST WAY TO SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM!

Affiliate marketers are trained to find a niche and to then dig into it. A really big niche is people who use the keywords, make money on the internet.

So who buys from affiliate marketers?

During the past month 165,000 people searched those exact words on Google. Maybe that's how you found this article. The goal of the affiliate marketer is to have a bunch of those people land on their website and to buy a plan that would teach those individuals how to do just that--make money on the Internet.

Well,is that possible? Of course it is but all too many of the secret, just released, high-powered, never-before-seen plans are pure crap.

When I sleep I have dreams, and I have nightmares. And undoubtedly a few minutes after waking up those dreams crawl into the dark recesses of my gray matter and rarely resurface.

But last night was different.

Last night I dreamed that I found a website that allowed me to download donuts--not just any donuts! These were my favorite kind. They are called cake donuts. These donuts feature a different recipe. And the end result is that they taste more like homemade cake. They are not covered with powdered white sugar that sticks to your fingers and leaves traces all around your mouth. They are glazed.

This was great!

With a swipe of my credit card and a click of my mouse, out popped a box full of cake donuts.

Isn't technology wonderful?

I woke up before I could devour any of those wonderful treats. But the memory lingered. Was the dream a sort of parable? I think it was, and as the day wore on I realized that a literal interpretation of this dream is simply that my expectation of getting a useful plan to build an Internet marketing business has been like downloading electronic donuts...very unlikely.

No one could have imagined 20 years ago that the Internet would become such a dynamic force in our lives today. Think of a question, and you can find an answer on the Internet. Some use the Net for good--some use it for evil. Separating the two then becomes the challenge.

My daily ritual is usually to crawl out of bed, shower and shave (on occasion), dress, walk the dog and then fire up my computer. Here are a few of the autoresponder-delivered e-mails I got today.

* Hey Don, I've just recorded a personal and uplifting video that could CHANGE your life completely...

* Don, Great News for you exclusively. Make $27,482.69 in the next 24-hours. Do not tell anyone about this!

* Have you seen this Don? Set your affiliate marketing business on fire with this guaranteed wealth-building formula.

Not a word about downloading donuts!

I started up my affiliate marketing business in October 2009. I didn't have a clue as to what it was all about, but I was determined to find all of the free information that seemed to be readily available on the Net. And there is plenty available! Trouble is that most of what I found only gave me a small part of the picture.

After flopping around like a fish out of the water it became very apparent that I was headed in too many directions at the same time. I was following rainbows to that pot of gold--but it never seemed to be there. No donuts either.

As the months passed by my earnings were meager at best...so I realized that I had better follow a plan or this same progress--if you can call it that--would continue.

A definition of Insanity

One definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. But I learned that if it doesn't work the first time, it is time to seek different results by using a different tactic.

If you plan to run a business you need a plan. I'm talking about a real business--not a lemonade stand out in your front yard. Following is the basic business plan I structured for me, but you are welcome to use it.

1. Stop collecting all of the FR*EE reports I am offered 24 hours a day. I don't have time to read through one of them let alone 6 or 7 each day. One of the Guru tactics is to give away free stuff for a while, and then start slamming and spamming you to buy something. Most people searching for an answer to a problem expect to find the find that answer for free.

That's a commendable but very impractical method. You can find a lot of information about health issues on the net but that won't teach you how to be a doctor. To get a degree in any subject you will have to pay for it.

2. Stop buying useless e-books that promise untold riches with little or no effort. Each one that I bought, except one, has been filed away on my hard drive. I have been unable to get through them. I learned in the first few pages that what I am supposed to do is beyond the meager knowledge I have about computers or running a business in general. Or I couldn't afford it.

3. Set up a website hosting account and begin building websites. But, you say, most of the gurus say you don't need a website. BULL. The gurus of Internet marketing all have dozens of websites, they just don't want you competing with them. I now have a hosting account with three websites up and working and I'll be creating more this weekend. And as of last count I have 30 free websites and over 2-dozen free blogs working for me.

It takes about 10-15 minutes for a non-computer geek like me to create one. The link down below will take you to one of my free blogs. This one took me 10 minutes to set up without any real knowledge of HTML or that other complex computer stuff.

4. Learn the ins and outs of finding profitable niches and begin developing a means of attracting traffic to them.
These four steps are what I'm doing now. Just remember, without a plan you are planning to fail.

Affiliate marketing is not Rocket Science. It can be developed to create for you a good, solid part time income with a view to making that a full time living.

This link will give you some first-hand information as to just how easy it is to set up a basic affiliate marketing business. Follow the steps I give you and you could have your business set up and running in a few hours from now.

But forget the electronic donuts.
