    Air Tran Airways

    • Air Tran allows you to travel with your small cat, dog or bird. The animal must fit in an approved pet carrier that is leak proof with ventilation on at least two sides. While there are no weight restrictions, the pet carrier must not exceed 8.5 inches high by 17 inches long by 12 inches wide. Airfare for an animal is non-refundable. The cost for a pet to travel in 2010 was $69 one-way. Reservations for your animal must be made when booking your airfare.

    American Airlines

    • Fly with your cat or dog on American Airlines. The pet carrier can have a maximum size of 19 inches long by 13 inches wide by 9 inches high. The animal and carrier, combined, must not exceed 20 lbs. Hard and soft-sided carriers are allowed. They must be leak proof and ventilated on at least two sides. In 2010, airfare for your pet cost $100 one-way. Reservations for animals must be made when booking your airfare.

    Delta Air Lines

    • Your dog, cat or bird can travel on Delta Air Lines. Maximum pet carrier sizes is determined by your flight. The animal and carrier must not weigh more than 20 lbs. In 2010, airfare for your pet cost $125 one-way. When booking your travel reservation, book your pet's as well. Reservations will let you know the exact pet carrier size restrictions for your flight.

    JetBlue Airways

    • Fly with your dog or cat on JetBlue Airways. The pet carrier should not exceed 17 inches long by 12.5 inches wide by 8.5 inches high. The weight of your pet and carrier cannot exceed 20 lbs. Carriers can be hard or soft-sided, and must be leak proof and well-ventilated. Airfare for your pet in 2010 was $100 one-way. When booking your flight, you must make a reservation for your pet as well. Reservations for pets cannot be done online.

      JetBlue also has JetPaws, a program that provides a pet carrier tag, a handbook for traveling with your pet, and allows you to earn 300 TruePoints, each way when your pet flies. TruePoints is an awards program that allows you to use points to fly.

    Southwest Airlines

    • Travel with your dog or cat on Southwest Airlines. The pet carrier must be leak proof and well-ventilated. The maximum size of the carrier is 19 inches long by 14 inches wide by 8.25 inches high. In 2010, pet airfare cost $75 one-way. Reservations must be made for your pet when booking your airfare. Pet reservations cannot be done online.
