When receiving a gift from someone you love, it is important to appreciate whatever it may be. After all it is the thought that counts. It seems to get a bit awkward when that someone or a lot of someones are watching you to see your reaction. All reactions are just that: reactions. So don't dwell on that. Keep you response short and positive.

When the gift is coming from a complete stranger this adds an awkward element. There is no giving it back or not accepting the gift. So go ahead and open it and be in appreciation. Obviously, this person admires you and has gone to the trouble to go and find you a gift. Regardless of whether you have one to exchange with him, remember to thank him for his thoughtfulness.

Are you receiving something that you have previously asked for? This is when your response has to be extremely cheerful. Don't be embarrassed to exaggerate. People love to see your excitement about the gift they have purchased you. Show them gratitude for what they have done to you. Let them know how much you appreciate it.

Your thankfulness should be show in words, expressions, and motions. You should not only verbalize your appreciation but show the giver through handshakes and hugs that you are thankful. Her thought has touched you, regardless of the gift. Let her know how much this means to you. Gift receiving can seem taxing, but don't let it be.
