105 1
Painting your old kitchen is the best way of giving them a new and fresh look, and would not be that expensive. However, before painting, you have to thoroughly clean the cabinets first. When you are ready to clean the cabinets, remove the doors and hinges, and use an all-purpose cleaner to wash them, after that wash them over with TSP and allow drying. Keep in mind though that paint will not stick to stained or varnished surfaces.

As you will begin, you have to:

Mask the floors, countertops and appliances before starting

You can use a sandpaper that is a fine grit, to give every surfaces of the cabinet a bit of light sanding

Put on some primer if you are not painting the kitchen cabinets a similar color

You have to use a high quality brush in applying the paint

Sand lightly with the fine grit sandpaper soon as the first coat is done and it is completely dry

You can have three coats if your cabinets are made of heavy wood, but two coats will be just fine

If you only apply a single thick coat, there is a possibility that it will peel right off

Always be patient and take your time in doing the procedure correctly

Another way of giving your kitchen a pristine look is to simply change those that have been damaged, outdated, or have tarnished hardware. Your kitchen hardware ought to be complimentary with your existing or new cabinets, and as a whole, with your kitchen.

Wood grained cabinets will definitely clash with shiny metal fittings, but those wood grained cabinets that have high gloss fittings can be matched up with modern designs. However, as a rule, dark hardware will go best with light finishes, or simply vice versa.

Take some measurements, the sizes, locations and the spacing of the screws. If it is impossible to use the original holes with your new set of hardware, use a black plate, and a metal plate that will fit in between the wooden surfaces and the knobs or pulls to be mounted. If you are choosing some hinges, it is best to get some expert advice. If their sizes do not match or fits badly to your doors then the probability of sagging exists.

If you want to replace your countertops, there are tons to choose from, such as glass countertops that will bring a glaze to a modern kitchen, soapstone, quartz counterparts that are the combination of quartz crystals and resin, and marble or granite.
