So what can an air traveler do? Ask which type of aircraft you will be flying on when you book your ticket.
If it is an Airbus, ask which model, if it is one of these popular A330s, ask for another flight or book with an airline that can offer you a flight on a Boeing Aircraft that clearly does not have this problem.
