Because M.
S.
attacks the nervous system, practicing Yoga can be a wonderful remedy.
Doing a few asanas (poses) may bring many benefits, but a well-rounded Hatha yoga class that includes not only appropriate postures, but pranayama (breathing practices),guided relaxation, and meditation, will cover everything within the body and without.
All aspects of the body are moved in all possible directions and modified according to your ability.
Backward bending, forward bending, inversions and twists are all providing various benefits for the internal organs, the digestive, circulatory, reproductive and endocrine systems.
When you are inverted the lymph glands are allowed to drain when normally they are stagnant.
The elasticity of the spine in particular, is the foundation of Hatha Yoga.
The first signs of an aging body begin with some sort of back pain or inflexibility of the spine or joints.
Some of this is due to poor dietary choices, emotional baggage, and environmental toxins and stress.
The body becomes out of balance and dis-ease manifests.
We need to re-ease the body and mind through a conscious, directed effort.
Twisting poses are extremely beneficial for the person with M.
S.
Twisting the spine increases flexibility of the entire spine and each attached vertebrae and ligament get a fresh supply of blood.
It's an excellent tonic for the nervous system and nerves rooted in the spine.
Added benefits are that it squeezes toxins from the digestive organs and can relieve pain or stiffness in the hip joints and muscles of the buttocks.
Pranayama are various breathing practices that calm the nervous system, clear the mind, and expand our intake of oxygen to encourage healing and vitality.
Guided relaxation is visualizing positive, calming images that move through the body from the toes to the top of the head to deeply relax and allow the body to heal.
We use images of warm sunlight, white light, or visualizing yourself in an aspect of nature that you particularly find soothing.
Meditation works on a cellular level, causing changes to the cells themselves, creating harmony in the body and mind and distancing yourself from worries and fears.
Meditation is the concentrated effort to clear the mind and access the connection to your deeper, peaceful nature.
I have been blessed to have taught many people with various health issues and I'm always grateful and happy to see the wonderful benefits that Yoga brings.
Yoga is a universal practice and when taught properly can help you become healthy, flexible, peaceful, and happy.
