- 1). Check the weather conditions before moving your plants. Plants should not be moved outdoors if the night time temperatures drop below 45 degrees Fahrenheit. In fall, plants should be brought indoors before the temperatures fall below this point.
- 2). Inspect your plants for signs of diseases or insect infestation. Treat plants with the proper fungicide or insecticide. Do not bring infected plants indoors. In the enclosed environment of your home, the infection could spread to your other plants.
- 3). Move plants that have been in direct sunlight into the shade for a few days before bringing them indoors to get them used to lower lighting conditions. If you are moving plants outdoors, move them into the shade to get them prepared for increased lighting conditions before shifting them into direct sunlight.
- 4). Touch the soil to determine whether it needs to be watered. Reduce watering with a watering can until you are only watering plants when the soil is dry to the touch. The soil should be watered until it is as damp as a wrung out sponge. Plants in containers will need less water when grown indoors and more when grown outdoors.
- 5). Slip the base of a hand truck under the flower pot. A hand truck is an L-shaped cart with wheels located at the bend in the cart. To operate the hand truck, tilt the cart backward. The cart's base will lift and shift the weight of the flower pot onto the axle of the wheels. You will then be able to roll the hand truck with the flower pot to any location you desire.
